Kiwi Valley Farm Trip - Oct 7

On Sunday October 4th we had a combined birthday party for all the babies in our coffee group who turned one this year.

We decided to go to Óld MacDonalds Farm' at Kiwi Valley. Unfortunately it was raining so we weren't able to do the farm walk etc, but we still had a lot of fun.

We had a great morning, the kiddies ate far too much food (and so did we). We will go again, it's only 5 minutes from our house, and while we do have access to most of these animals through friends, it's a nice outing, plus they have a cafe (which means real coffee LOL)

Brrr where has this cold come from

Well we are only a few weeks away from Summer and it's freezing. We were having a beautiful Spring, but we have had an unexpected cold snap, and believe me it's coollldddd.

So some of the ladies I know through Ravelry have been making these. I didn't believe how quick everyone claimed them to be to knit up, until I actually looked at the pattern. These are seriously easy and super quick. Check out the pattern for yourself, you will see what I mean.

If you did check out the pattern, you will notice I left off a vital part of the pattern LOL. When I had finished the first one, I put it on and wondered about the house to discover that the place where the slipper falls off was the heel, and to be perfectly honest it would have driven me mental, so out came the crochet hook and the yarn (still double stranded) and this is what I did

At the back seam on the heel, I single crochet x 3 centred across the back.

Single crochet for three more rows, then chain x 4, skip one single crochet and join the chain into the third to create a loop.

Finished off all ends, then did a single chain of double stranded yarn for 90cms.

That's it, how easy was that!

Gardening with the wee one - Oct 4

There is something extra special about gardening with little people. It brings me great joy to see my 18 month old daughter enjoying herself in the garden.

During the week I brought Miss C some of her own gardening tools so she doesn't nick mine all the time. I also got her a purple bucket (which I will have to decorate) for her to carry her tools in.

Yesterday she helped me plant some cucumbers, courgettes, gherkin and egg plant. We also planted a giant pumpkin. Our local garden centre runs a competition to see who can grow the biggest. Fingers crossed for ours. I will take regular photos (as long as the plant survives LOL) of Cara and her plant growing together.

Fabric Dolls House

I am so so in love with a wee gnome house one of the talented Crafty Mama's has made. Check this out. How incredibly cool is that. The original tutorial is here.

My 'To Do' list has just grown again, LOL. Miss C would love this so much. I already have it pictured in my head how I want to make it. Oh I can't wait :)

My Crafty 'To Do' List for October

I thought I would write this list so I can tick off as I go and get the job completed. Bit scary when I look at it, and there are a few more that I will need to add as I think of them, but as long as I get through them, I'm happy.

1. Finish off the 6 birthday presents for this Sunday (4th October 2009)
2. Finish off Milo and block
3. Knit test knit for Rachel
4. Finish off Summerlin for Miss C
5. Make another Summerlin for Miss C
6. Make Shorts for Miss C
7. Make Pants for Miss C
8. Make a couple of dresses for Miss C
9. Set up Etsy account
10. Release Needlecase pattern for Sale
11. Make up some Needlecases to sell
12. Make hand cream and soaps
13. Dye yarn

That's all I can think of at the moment.

I thought I would post this now, since I missed yesterday for Blogtoberfest because I didn't know about it then LOL

I Must be Mad!

I must have completely and utterly lost the plot. Some of the lovelies blogs I follow have signed up for Blogtoberfest, and I thought "Hey that's a great idea" so I signed up as well. Basically I have to post everyday for the whole of October.

I'm I mad, well I guess I am a wee bit, but now I've committed to it so will endeavour to do it.

I'm also crazy enough to write up a list of what crafty goodness I want to get done this month, so I will work on that today and write it up to be ready for posting tomorrow.

Let's see how I go

Colour Swap Part 2 - Oct 5

Previously I posted about a Craft swap I participated in. I only posted about what I made, so it's only fair to post about the most amazing parcels we received from the lovely Julia. Sorry hun, I didn't mean to take so long in posting this.

The colour I chose was Purple for me, and something purple or girly for Cara.

I was totally blown away by what we received.

My parcel consisted of the following:

150gms of Fabulous Fibres Hand Dyed Yarn 'Something Purple'- how scrummy is this:

Some lovely dried lavender - perfect timing as I've been having trouble sleeping so will make a pouch and put it by my pillow
100% Hand Dyed Silk Silver - beautiful colours
The cutest wee pair of longies to hang on my Christmas Tree
A really cool coffee mug and placemat which will reside by my computer for my herbal tea while I'm surfing the net
A chocolate bar which lasted all of a few minutes before being gobbled up.

Cara's package contained the following:

The cutest 'Spring Butterfly' adjusted to a size 2
The most adorable felted bag for Cara to collect flowers in :)
A big bag of tricks, which has been used nearly every day
A very cool booked called 'The Vanishing Pumpkin

The thought and effort that went into these two packages give me warm fuzzies everytime I look or use something from them.

Thank you so much Julia, your a honey
