My first Poppet - Sasha

I've always wanted to make a doll, and I especially wanted to make one for Cara for her first birthday. I spent months trying to find a pattern but a lot of what I came across were too old fashioned or were right at the other end of just too weird.

I brought a pattern off Etsy which I was going to adapt to what I wanted. I had a picture in my head of what I wanted the doll to look like, something like Jen off The Dark Crystal but could not find anything like it. But guess what, within a week of purchasing a pattern to adapt, I found exactly what I was looking for and it was free. So typical isn't it LOL

I had brought a kit months before to make a fairy, but was a bit frightened to do it alone, if you know what I mean. The free pattern I found is from here. Email Ghilie and she will send you a copy of the PDF. This thread is huge, when writing this there were 885 pages and it's growing everyday. You can just click on 'show images only' to get a quick view on all the various poppets. There's also heaps of tips from fellow poppeters so it gave me the confidence to give it ago. I had the material from the kit that I could use, I had already brought the sculpting needles, just needed to find the buttons for the joints (found at Spotlight) and figure out how to do the eyes.

Once all this was sorted, I was ready to create. Still a bit nervous and since I'm still a beginner sewer I was freaking out just a tad, but I knew madam's birthday was coming up quick so I had better get cracking. Once the pattern was cut out it all came together quite quickly. The whole process was actually really easy and I could see my poppet coming to life after a night of creating.

Well I think that's enough waffling so I shall now reveal Sasha :)

As I write this she is now dressed, I just need to take some photo's ASAP and will update this blog with them.

I will be updating my blog a bit over the next few days so please check back to see what other craftiness has been happening here :)
